Cheap treadmills are available in today’s market, but you don’t really want cheap, you want good quality for a low price.
Since you are probably just starting your search for cheap treadmills you may not know what the features are available and what the technical descriptions mean.
I’m going to pull back the curtain and tell you the good, the bad and the ugly about home exercise equipment so you can find a cheap treadmill that has all the must have features without spending money for something that you’ll probably never use.
When we’re done with our journey you’ll know the things about treadmills that you must have and the things that do nothing but cost you money and pad the pockets of the manufacturers.
So, lets get started.
First you need to consider the deck. The deck is under the belt that you walk on. On cheap treadmills, the deck is very thin and does not have a very good suspension.
Make sure the deck is at least 1/2″ thick and has a slick coating. Some of the more expensive treadmills make a big deal about their deck being reversible. This may be important to a health, but the reality is that unless you are putting miles and miles on your treadmill each day, you will not need to reverse the deck on your treadmill. ลู่วิ่ง
I’ve had my treadmill for 6 years and do my best to walk/run a minimum of 1 mile per day. Before I suffered a knee injury I was running 3 miles per day on my treadmill. I weigh 275 pounds so I really punish it.
The 2nd most important thing to consider is the suspension and the belt. These are the most important parts of your treadmill as they determine the comfort you will have when you are on it.
Cheap treadmills found at large discount stores have very thin belts and little or no suspension. The thin belt will wear out quickly and does not absorb shock that occurs in your body when you run on a cheap treadmill.
The suspension is not emphasized as much as it should be. A good suspension is critical to the feel of your treadmill. If its too soft, you’ll feel like you are on a trampoline, but if its too still you will feel shock waves pulsing through your body with every step.
The next thing to consider is the width of the treadmill belt. All of the cheap treadmills like the ones found at big box retailers have narrow belts. Its not uncommon to find belts as narrow as 10 inches. If you expect to use your treadmill for a long time and you intend to run on it, then you need to consider getting a belt that is at least 18 inches wide.
Next on the list is the motor. You need to make sure the motor is at least a 2 horsepower motor and that it is heavy duty. The motors on treadmills don’t get much ventilation so they need to be able to operate well while hot.
If you don’t get a large enough motor, it won’t move the belt smoothly while you’re walking on it and the life of the treadmill will be reduced. That is the last thing that you want after you spend several hundred or even thousand dollars on a piece of home exercise equipment.
The minimum size motor you should get is 2. 0 chp (continuous horsepower).
There’s one more thing to consider when discussing motors. A lot of manufacturers of cheap treadmills have found a way to use the motor to power both the belt and incline feature. This reduces their costs and increases your inconvenience because you can only do one thing at a time. You can increase the incline or you can walk/run. This means that you can’t increase or decrease the incline while you are exercising which you will find very inconvenient.
